More books

Below are some books that are not strictly about the subject of Spiritualism or the paranormal, but they all have a profound spiritual message and are excellent books. I have included some novels and other stories in this section.

Jessica Adams I’m a Believer This is a brilliant novel. It is about a young man whose girlfriend passes away in a car accident and then starts talking to him from the other side. This book has been well researched and despite its tragic start it is extremely funny at times. It gives an excellent account of how a skeptic discovers the truth of the afterlife.

Alice Sebold The Lovely Bones Another novel with a theme of the afterlife. A young girl is raped and murdered and gives her account of the events that follow in her family as she watches from the spirit world. This was not my favorite book, but I know many have enjoyed these pages. I felt it was a rather sensationalist and unnecessarily graphic at times and the characters lacked depth. I have recommended this book on this list because it is interesting to read such books on the subject to see how some (in this case the author) view the spirit world.

Paulo Coelho The Alchemist I have read every single book of this International best selling author and can highly recommend each and every one of them. All Coelho’s books are in some way based on his personal experiences. The Alchemist is a fascinating book about Santiago, a Spanish Shepherd, who sets off on an adventure after a vivid dream. All Coelho’s books are short enough to read in an evening but the impact will remain with you forever. If you are new to this author I would recommend this book as an introduction to his writing.

Paulo Coelho Eleven Minutes Eleven minutes is a world apart from Coelho’s usual style and to some of his fans a little surprising. It is about Maria a young girl from Brazil who escapes to Europe and becomes a prostitute. Coelho still gets across the same level of emotional impact and as always with his books a profound message lies in its pages. I loved it!

Other books

Below are some books that have nothing at all to do with this subject. They are some of my favorites and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Peter Martin A Dog Called Perth For dog lovers everywhere; this is the true story of a beagle from the time he is taken on by his owner Peter Martin through to his passing 21 years later. It follows the adventures and highs and lows of his life starting in upstate New York and ending in the English Countryside. It is hard to describe the beautiful and moving life of Perth, except to suggest you read this and see for yourself.

Vikram Seth An Equal Music Another novel about a violinist and his relationship with his music. This has been cited by the Daily Telegraph as ‘The finest novel about music ever written in English’. It is also a love story but one of such depth and profundity it cannot fail to move the reader.
